Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Howard! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tommy Gunn! The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Eliza Hachem and Skip Squint.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gunn tries to clinch up but Howard circles away and keeps his distance. Gunn throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Gunn throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Gunn misses with a double jab.
Gunn throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land. Gunn darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Howard scores with a takedown into Gunn's guard. Howard throwing strikes but missing. Howard makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Howard throws a big right hand that misses.
That's one minute gone in the round. Howard throwing strikes from guard but Gunn blocks nicely. Howard trying to control the position from guard on top but Gunn is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Gunn is trying to keep Howard in close.
Howard wants to pass the guard but Gunn is keeping the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Howard slips nicely into half guard. Gunn avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Howard.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Howard jabs at Gunn's body. Gunn misses with the combination.
Tommy Gunn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A jab from Gunn does it's job there.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gunn will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

It looks like Tommy Gunn has been cut. Howard circles away from the clinch attempt and Howard counters with a single leg into guard. Gunn didn't expect that. Gunn looks gassed! Howard is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Howard lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Howard wants to control from the top but Gunn keeps moving.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Howard postures up in Gunn's guard and throws a big left but Gunn blocks it. Howard is looking to work some ground and pound but Gunn has wrist control. Howard showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Howard chips away with some ground and pound. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Howard looking to pass the guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gunn misses the jab. Howard fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Gunn manages to avoid it. Howard throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Gunn sees it coming and avoids it easily. Gunn misses with a double jab
and Howard counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Gunn's guard now. Gunn is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Howard trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Howard stands and throws Gunn's legs to the side, diving into side control. Howard tries to advance to mount but Gunn denies him. Howard scores with a couple of short elbows. Gunn struggling a bit here. Gunn is looking to reverse the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Howard cracks Gunn with a big right hand but Gunn just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Gunn is breathing heavily. Howard advances to full mount. Gunn wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Howard.
Howard can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Gunn is looking to escape.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Howard punching from mount but Gunn doing a good job of avoiding damage. A nice elbow there by Howard. and Howard counters with a right hand to the body. Gunn looks to throw the jab but Howard is out of range. Howard misses the jab. Howard scores with the left hand. Gunn knows he should have avoided that one. Howard closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Howard has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Gunn is bucking up trying to escape but Howard cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Gunn takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
That's one minute gone in the round. Howard lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Gunn hang on? Howard has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Howard punishing his opponent with strikes. Howard dominating with strikes here. Howard scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Howard dominating with strikes here. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Howard is in the full mount, landing strikes. Howard controlling from the full mount. Howard with shots to the head and body - Gunn looks very uncomfortable down there.

Howard lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Gunn hang on? John Howard overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Howard jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Gunn manages to avoid the submission attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Both fighters take a look at the clock. Tommy Gunn has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! John Howard is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. A lull in the action here as Howard stalls from top position. Gunn is looking for a sweep.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Howard controls the position. Howard's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that's the end of the fight! John Howard showed his dominance in that final round. Well Howard has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
