This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 28 wins and 32 losses; Anthony Lavicci! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Amsterdam, with a TWGC record of 36 wins and 41 losses; Long Wang! The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Sam Margolis and Andrew Berry.
Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Lavicci fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Lavicci gets caught flat footed, as Wang shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Lavicci (0) vs (2) Wang Wang stays in close to Lavicci's body and controls the position. Lavicci keeping moving, preventing Wang from controlling successfully. Wang pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Lavicci is keeping the position for now. Lavicci has control of Wang's left arm, preventing Wang from doing any damage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Wang trying to control the position from guard on top but Lavicci is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Lavicci has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

Wang can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Lavicci is looking to escape. Wang goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Lavicci is on top in guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Wang tries to land a sweep but no joy. Lavicci wants to control from the top but Wang keeps moving. Lavicci slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Score +3 for passing guard: Lavicci (7) vs (6) Wang Lavicci is looking to take a break and control but Wang is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Lavicci tries for a kimura but Wang is defending well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wang regains half guard there - taking advantage of Lavicci's attempt to lay and pray for a moment. Lavicci tries to pass to full mount but Wang defends it. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Wang trying to hold on to Lavicci's head to control him but Lavicci postures up.

That's five minutes gone in the round. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Wang holds on and takes a little breather. Wang keeping moving, preventing Lavicci from controlling successfully. Lavicci won't allow Wang to sweep him here. Lavicci slips nicely into half guard. Wang tries to get to full guard but Lavicci has control of the leg. Lavicci wants to free his trapped foot but Wang is holding on for dear life with his legs. Lavicci with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

That's seven minutes gone in the round. Lavicci working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Wang's thigh. Wang counters though and makes it back to full guard. Wang pulls Lavicci in close to prevent any damage. Wang can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Lavicci controls the pace. Lavicci stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wang swivels though and keeps the full guard. Wang seems keen to control Lavicci's posture.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. Wang tries to land a sweep but no joy. Wang pulls Lavicci in close to prevent any damage. Lavicci pushes down on Wang's leg and manages to get into half guard. Lavicci seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Wang does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Wang tries to roll over but Lavicci keeps him under control. Lavicci wants to pass the guard but Wang is defending well.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Wang is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Lavicci pulls his head out easily. Wang is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Lavicci is looking to pass Wang's guard but actually Wang recovers to full guard. Lavicci pushing down on Wang's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Lavicci tries to pass to full mount but Wang defends it. Lavicci is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Score +3 for passing guard: Lavicci (10) vs (6) Wang The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's ten minutes gone in the round. Lavicci controlling from mount. Wang sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Wang is in trouble now - Lavicci has advanced to mount! Score +3 for passing guard: Lavicci (13) vs (6) Wang Wang gets back to half guard. Lavicci is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Score +3 for passing guard: Lavicci (16) vs (6) Wang Wang is desperately trying to improve his position but Lavicci has a good base and remains in mount. Wang sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Lavicci trying to mount his opponent but Wang defends it. Lavicci wants to control but Wang is keeping him busy. Wang wants to improve his position but Lavicci is controlling well.

Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Lavicci tries to pass to full mount but Wang defends it. Wang is trying to control but can't.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Wang is refusing to be controlled, as Lavicci sits in half guard. Lavicci looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Wang moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Wang is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Wang keeping full guard, as Lavicci tries to pass.
And that's the end of the fight! Lavicci takes the fight on points by 16 to 6. An out of breath Anthony Lavicci thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career. Long Wang was interviewed post fight and said 'No worries. Everyone here knows my opponent has a bad habit of testing positive for PEDs, so I'm sure this fight will soon be ruled a 'No Contest' by the Athletic Commission.'. |
