The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Mauricio Rocha and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Holmes fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Holmes misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Holmes drops Gracie with a left right combo! Holmes follows him down to the ground into side control.
Gracie is rocked!
It looks like Rodney Gracie has been cut.
Gracie is not content to let Holmes control the position.
Holmes tries to advance to mount but Gracie denies him.
Holmes wants to control but Gracie is keeping him busy.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gracie looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Holmes is desperately trying to improve his position but Gracie has a good base and remains in mount.
Holmes tries to hold on but Gracie pushes him away.

Holmes has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gracie is working away from the top position though.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Holmes is positioning himself well to prevent Gracie advancing to mount.
Holmes has a hand on Gracie's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Gracie takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Holmes tries to hold on but Gracie pushes him away.

Holmes lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Gracie feints and as Holmes raises his hands in defense, Gracie changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Holmes is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Holmes seems keen to control Gracie's posture.
Holmes is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Gracie drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Holmes dives on top into guard.
Gracie is breathing heavily.
Holmes gets to his feet - Gracie follows without any prompting.

Holmes connects with a right hand. Gracie shakes it off.
Holmes throws a left that rocks Gracie and follows with a right that sends him tumbling to the canvas! Holmes dives into side control, looking to finish! Can Gracie regain composure!
Gracie is still in real trouble! Can Holmes finish him?
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Holmes wants to control but Gracie is keeping him busy.
Holmes is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Gracie knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Gracie seems to have recovered his senses.

Gracie tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
Holmes struggling to keep hold of the position.
Gracie defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Holmes's arms.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Holmes trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Holmes is trying to stick to Gracie's back but Gracie is turning into Holmes. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Holmes's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Gracie.
Holmes wants to sweep here but Gracie controlling him for the moment.
Gracie throws a strike but Holmes rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Gracie has his foot on Holmes's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Holmes works his way back into a safe position though.

Holmes lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Holmes lands with an uppercut that bounces Gracie off the cage and back into rage.
Gracie looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Holmes wants to sweep but no luck.

Holmes wants to hit a switch here but Gracie passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Holmes there!

Holmes lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Gracie changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Holmes looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Holmes tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Gracie wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Gracie has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Rodney Gracie has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Gracie tries for a takedown but Holmes sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
