The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Chan shoots in and bounces Soares off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Soares stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Chan swivels though and keeps the full guard.

We've been hearing good reports from Soares's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Soares postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Chan is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Soares, into his guard.

Chan avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Chan engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Soares working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Chan doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Chan manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Soares can't keep his opponent in guard - Chan advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Soares is holding on to half guard well.
Soares keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Soares keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Chan looks to land a strike but Soares avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Gabriel Soares will probably get the nod.

Soares avoids the head kick by Chan.
Chan is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Soares dips to his left and cracks Chan with an uppercut!
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Chan.
Chan tries to clinch but Soares moves out of range.
Soares jabs Chan right on the nose. Chan blinks but takes it well.

Chan throws a solid leg kick but Soares takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Chan.
Soares paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

Chan drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Soares is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Chan can do to turn this around?

Gabriel Soares has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jackie Chan.
Chan wants to take the fight to the mat but Soares manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
