PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jay Metcalf (ranked 4059 p4p, 4073 weight class) and Alejandro Garnacho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Garnacho is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Bye Bye. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jay Metcalf!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alejandro Garnacho!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Steven Brown and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Garnacho thows a leg kick but Metcalf checks it

and Metcalf counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Metcalf sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Garnacho defending well though.
Garnacho is positioning himself well to prevent Metcalf advancing to mount.
Garnacho has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Metcalf is working away from the top position though.

Well, if Metcalf is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Metcalf fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Garnacho, pushing him back against the cage.
Garnacho tries to pull guard but Metcalf forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Metcalf is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Garnacho is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Metcalf to keep the fight standing.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Garnacho is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Metcalf misses with a takedown attempt - Garnacho sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Garnacho lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

Garnacho bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Metcalf explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Garnacho avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Garnacho shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Metcalf manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Alejandro Garnacho is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
