Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Akbar Khan (ranked 3230 p4p, 3946 weight class) and Boreas Galanis (ranked 352 p4p, 405 weight class). Boreas Galanis will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Boreas Galanis!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Gregory Folan and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Khan throws a sloppy head kick

Khan decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Galanis shoots in and bounces Khan off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Galanis accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Khan tries to land a front kick but Galanis steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Galanis bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Galanis drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Khan sneaks out the side door and pushes Galanis away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Khan throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Galanis is looking for the big counter here.
Khan is breathing heavily.

Galanis clinches with his opponent.
Khan blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Khan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Galanis tries to land knees in the clinch but Khan avoids the damage to the body.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.

Galanis works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Akbar Khan will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Galanis shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Khan is trying to defend but Galanis finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Galanis is looking to stall here but Khan recovers full guard.

Khan has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Galanis is on him like a limpet, forcing Khan back against the cage.

Galanis has hold of one of Khan's legs. Khan is fighting the takedown attempt but Galanis gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Khan is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Galanis presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Galanis manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Khan is trying to push Galanis away but Galanis has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Galanis is trying to maintain a safe position but Khan gets an underhook and turns Galanis into the cage.

Khan pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

and Galanis counters with a head kick. That will keep Khan thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Khan's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Galanis shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Galanis is trying to trip Khan. He has hold of a leg but Khan is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Galanis persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Khan has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Galanis has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Galanis manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Galanis is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Galanis wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Khan manages to pass to side control.

Khan sneaks out the side door and pushes Galanis away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Khan has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.

Akbar Khan showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Khan, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
