Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Renato Sobral (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chuck Lidell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sobral comes to the cage accompanied by SEPULTURA: ATTITUDE. Lidell has chosen Year of the Icemandog as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Chuck Lidell has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lidell tries to clinch but Sobral moves out of range. An inside leg kick lands from Sobral. Lidell tries a head kick but it misses.
Lidell throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean. Lidell misses with a double jab.
Lidell slips a jab and a cross from Sobral.
Lidell swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Lidell throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Sobral fails with a takedown attempt. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lidell tries for a takedown but Sobral sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. A lazy left from Lidell finds it's target.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lidell throws a sloppy head kick and Sobral moves out of range easily. No luck for Lidell with that takedown attempt. Lidell throws a hook but Sobral blocks it. Sobral moves out of range of the body kick from Lidell.
Lidell blocks a jab. Lidell cracks Sobral with a right hand to the side of the head. Sobral staying out of range there. Lidell looks to land a combination but Sobral avoids it well. Sobral tries to clinch there but Lidell circles away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lidell tests Sobral's chin there with a solid looking shot. Sobral moves out of range as Lidell strikes. Sobral gets a clinch. Sobral lands on the inside with an uppercut. Sobral tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

Sobral misses with a knee to the head. Sobral is breathing heavily. Lidell managing to block the knees to the body from Sobral.
Sobral throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Lidell blocks it with crossed arms. Lidell wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Sobral misses with an elbow strike.
Lidell wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Lidell is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Renato Sobral has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chuck Lidell. Lidell wants to get back to striking at distance but Sobral won't allow it.

Lidell tries to break the clinch but Sobral is controlling the position. Lidell pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Sobral darts in and clinches Lidell up against the cage. Sobral lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage. A right hand to the body from Sobral.
Sobral with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Lidell escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

and Lidell counters with a stiff right hand. Lidell lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Lidell looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Sobral is fending him off so far but Lidell persists. Nope, Sobral circles away and we're back to standing. Sobral looks to land a combination but Lidell avoids it well. Sobral slips a jab and a cross from Lidell.
Lidell shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Sobral as he jumps to the side. Sobral misses with a wild combination.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Chuck Lidell dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
Lidell throws a head kick but Sobral moves out of range.
Lidell misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Lidell throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Sobral misses with a double jab
and Lidell makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. Lidell goes for a high kick. It partially lands. Lidell looks to land a left hand but Sobral moved out of range nicely. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Some wild striking there from Lidell.

and Lidell counters with a three punch combo that has Sobral backing up. Sobral nods at Lidell to acknowledge the strikes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sobral will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
A low kick from Lidell misses and Sobral moves into the clinch. Lidell on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Sobral just misses with a elbow thrown towards Lidell's brow. Lidell's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Sobral throws a leg kick that is checked and Lidell cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Lidell misses with a two punch combination.
Lidell closes the distance but Sobral moves to the side so Sobral counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Sobral thows a big elbow that misses. Sobral thows a big elbow that misses.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lidell preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Sobral trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Sobral missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Lidell keeping full guard, as Sobral tries to pass. Sobral in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Lidell is looking to stand up but Sobral isn't so interested in that idea.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Lidell rushes Sobral and presses him up against the cage. Sobral misses with a knee strike.

Lidell ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Lidell no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Sobral stands up from Lidell's guard - Sobral perhaps looking for a knockout. Lidell smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. Sobral misses with a combination
and Lidell counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Lidell circles away from the clinch attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Lidell lands with a kick to the temple. Sobral shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" Sobral closes the distance and clinches. Sobral tries to land knees in the clinch but Lidell avoids the damage to the body. Sobral misses with a knee strike.

Lidell tries to break the clinch but Sobral is controlling the position. Lidell blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Lidell pulls guard. Sobral wants to pass the guard but Lidell is keeping the position. Sobral won't allow Lidell to get back to his feet. Lidell really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sobral. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Sobral slips nicely into half guard. Sobral thows a huge punch but Lidell dodges it nicely.

A close second round but Chuck Lidell will probably get the nod - 10:9. That's time! Sobral's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!
Sobral throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Lidell. Sobral shoots in but no luck this time. Good exchange - Lidell coming out on top. Lidell scores with a jab to the body. Lidell misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Sobral wants to clinch. Sobral swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

That's one minute gone in the round. Lidell tries to clinch but Sobral moves away and Sobral holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Lidell can't break the clinch.
Sobral jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Lidell walks away with a smile on his face. Sobral gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Lidell connects with a solid leg kick. Lidell lands a high kick!
Lidell looks to land a combination but Sobral avoids it well. Lidell lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
A low kick from Sobral misses and Lidell cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Lidell lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Lidell's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Lidell duly obliges.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lidell tries to bum rush Sobral with a series of wild strikes but Sobral uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Sobral lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Sobral darts in trying to clinch and Lidell connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Sobral swinging wilding here.
Chuck Lidell is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Sobral.
Lidell changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sobral tries to avoid it but Lidell manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sobral to the ground. Sobral escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lidell uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Sobral has time to react. Sobral instigates a clinch. Lidell has had enough of the clinch but Sobral keeps him there for the moment. Sobral creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses. Lidell jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Sobral walks away with a smile on his face. Lidell gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Renato Sobral has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chuck Lidell. Horrible takedown by Sobral or perhaps it was just good defense by Lidell which made him look bad. Sobral walks into a left hand. Lidell's corner calls for a 1-2. Lidell obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Sobral dodges the punch combination from Lidell.
Sobral scores with a one two! Lidell had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Renato Sobral has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Sobral looks for a takedown but Lidell sprawls well. Lidell shoots in but Sobral avoids the takedown attempt easily. Sobral misses with a double jab
and Lidell counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
And that's the end of the fight! Chuck Lidell comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I've got Lidell winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
