PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between David Easton (ranked 4043 p4p, 4268 weight class) and Colin McCeda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, David Easton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Colin McCeda!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Ron Honeybunn and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McCeda fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Easton avoids it really well and circles away.
Easton fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Easton throws a half hearted mid kick.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from McCeda lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Easton has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Easton and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
McCeda slaps away a takedown attempt from Easton, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Easton misses with a takedown attempt - McCeda sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Easton. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McCeda shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Easton as he jumps to the side.
Easton tries to clinch up.

McCeda tries to clinch there but Easton circles away.
Easton fakes a jab and throws a low kick but McCeda checks it well.
McCeda goes for a double leg but Easton avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Easton continues to drive forward.

McCeda gets underhooks to prevent Easton's takedown attempt.
Easton is pressed up against the cage. McCeda has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Easton down to the mat. Easton avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Easton shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with McCeda but McCeda pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Easton throws a head kick but McCeda moves out of range.
McCeda wants to clinch up but Easton keeps it at a distance.
Easton tries to clinch but McCeda is having none of it.
Easton shoots in for a double leg but McCeda sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
McCeda fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Easton takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Easton circles away from the clinch attempt.
McCeda fails with a takedown attempt.
McCeda misses with a takedown attempt - Easton sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

McCeda is looking to break free of the clinch but Easton has double underhooks.
McCeda wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Easton has him pressed against the cage.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Easton tries for a takedown but McCeda manages to get underhooks.
Easton is defending well against a takedown attempt.
McCeda on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
McCeda has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Easton avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

McCeda's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
McCeda throws a series of punches but Easton moves out of range.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Easton changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. McCeda tries to avoid it but Easton manages to keep hold of a leg and drag McCeda to the ground. McCeda escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
McCeda throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
No luck with that takedown attempt from McCeda.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

David Easton dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Horrible takedown attempt by McCeda or perhaps it was just good defense by Easton, which made it look bad.

Easton closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. McCeda did well to prevent Easton getting side control.
McCeda wants to stand back up but Easton manages to pass into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Easton's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Easton misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Easton has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

McCeda shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Easton as he avoids it easily.

Easton clinches up with McCeda and pushes him back against the cage.
Easton has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. McCeda is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Easton is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that McCeda can do to turn this around?
McCeda tries to work over Easton's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Easton had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. McCeda defends it easily.

Easton is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Easton lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

McCeda is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Easton fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with McCeda, pushing him back against the cage.
McCeda is struggling to control the position.
McCeda can't get the takedown.
Easton drops down looking for an ankle pick but McCeda pulls his leg out and moves away.
Easton lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but McCeda circles away quickly and effectively.
McCeda changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Easton tries to avoid it but McCeda manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Easton to the ground. Easton escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

McCeda jumps guard but Easton turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
McCeda looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Easton tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Easton gets control of McCeda's arms and successfully pulls guard. Easton will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
McCeda has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Easton is proving hard to escape from.
Easton wants to sweep here but McCeda controlling him for the moment.
Easton is pulling down on McCeda's head to control his posture.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

and Easton counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps McCeda thinking.

Colin McCeda has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
David Easton is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

McCeda tries to sprawl but Easton drives through with a takedown into half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
David Easton showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Easton has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
