Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kyoji Horiguchi! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Theo Parra! The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Shigeki Sano and Ren Mimura.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Parra tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Horiguchi paws at him with a jab and circles away. Parra tries for a takedown but Horiguchi sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Parra throws a sloppy head kick and Horiguchi moves out of range easily. It looked like Horiguchi was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit. Horiguchi circles away from the clinch attempt.
Horiguchi shoots for a takedown but Parra saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Parra misses with a takedown and Horiguchi counters with a one-two to the body. Parra tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Horiguchi manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Theo Parra seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Horiguchi keeps the fight on the outside. Horiguchi fails to land the takedown. Parra should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Horiguchi shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Parra is trying to get back to full guard. Parra is not content to let Horiguchi control the position. Horiguchi is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Horiguchi is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Parra wants to control but Horiguchi is keeping busy and won't allow it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Horiguchi stops Parra from getting back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Horiguchi trying to control the action but Parra is working from the bottom. Horiguchi moves nicely into side control. Horiguchi has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Parra! Parra tries to hold on but Horiguchi pushes him away. Horiguchi has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Parra is forced to tap!
