And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 18 wins and 42 losses; David McDonald! The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Phil Schofield and Colin Fotheringham.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Kersikov stuffs the takedown. McDonald closes the distance and clinches up with Kersikov, looking for a takedown. McDonald pushes Kersikov against the ropes but Kersikov circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. McDonald decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Kersikov tries to roll over but McDonald keeps him under control. Kersikov is looking to control McDonald's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Kersikov avoid being mounted? We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kersikov keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

Kersikov is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at KFA, so we'll see if he gets out of it. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. McDonald is looking to take a break and control but Kersikov is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. McDonald is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Kersikov will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. McDonald slows the pace down.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Kersikov is positioning himself to get back to half guard. McDonald trying to control the position but Kersikov is working away. Kersikov tries to bench press McDonald off him but McDonald keeps the position.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. McDonald wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kersikov keeps working. McDonald might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Kersikov haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Kersikov manages to get back to half guard.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Kersikov gets full guard. Kersikov wants to sweep here but McDonald controlling him for the moment. Kersikov trying to control the position.
McDonald stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kersikov swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Kersikov has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but McDonald has passed into side control.

And that's the end of the fight! McDonald wins on points by 14 to 0. David McDonald opened up his post fight interview with a scream to camera that he wants a title shot! Whether he deserves the shot will be up to the management of the organization, so I guess he'll have to wait and see. |
