PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Deer Hunter (ranked 1314 p4p, 1942 weight class) and Darryl Haze (ranked 135 p4p, 192 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Deer Hunter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Darryl Haze !
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Percy O'Donnell.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hunter defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Haze .
Haze looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Some wild striking there from Haze .
Haze lands a head kick. Hunter smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Hunter is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Haze .
Haze tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Haze throws a body shot but no joy.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Haze crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Hunter - the referee stops the clock and Haze gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Hunter. Haze manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Hunter throws a body punch but Haze moves out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Hunter is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Haze 's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Haze is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Hunter manages to get to full guard.
Hunter knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Haze on the ground.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Haze accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Haze has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.

It seemed like Haze was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Hunter swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Haze appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.

Haze lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Darryl Haze showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Haze thuds his right hand into Hunter's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Haze throws a hook to the side of Hunter's head but Hunter sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Hunter needs to keep his hands up - Haze had a free shot at his head there.

Haze drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Hunter gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Haze wants to take the fight to the mat but Hunter manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Hunter blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Hunter lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Haze or not.

A frustrated look appears on Haze 's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Haze is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Hunter is defending well.
Haze takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Hunter unloads with a big right hand that wobbles Haze ! He's leaning against the cage trying to keep his feet but Hunter is unloading with more strikes now! Haze drops to his knees and the referee stops the fight for a TKO!
