Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Gunner (ranked 2515 p4p, 3365 weight class) and Cormac McCarthy (ranked 123 p4p, 183 weight class). Cormac McCarthy has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Tommy Gunner's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tommy Gunner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Cormac McCarthy!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Paul Gruel and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jab, jab by Gunner - just one landing.
Gunner throws a shot from downtown. McCarthy moves away and avoids it.
McCarthy waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Gunner.
Gunner jabbing away but nothing is landing.
McCarthy is looking to clinch.
Gunner thinks about countering with a head kick.

McCarthy has managed to clinch.
McCarthy fails to pull guard.
Gunner misses with a shot to the kidneys.

McCarthy jumps guard.

McCarthy has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gunner can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Gunner advances to half guard.

McCarthy is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Gunner pulls his head out easily.

Gunner decides to stand up.
A swing and a miss from Gunner.
Gunner sets himself, and McCarthy steps forward looking for the clinch! Gunner avoids it this time.

McCarthy closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A head punch blocked on the inside by McCarthy.
McCarthy prevents a body shot from Gunner.
Gunner swings away with an uppercut that misses.
McCarthy tries to pull guard but Gunner won't allow it.

McCarthy ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. McCarthy no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
McCarthy working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Gunner.
Gunner knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for McCarthy on the ground.
Gunner makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
McCarthy avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

McCarthy is looking for a triangle but Gunner pushes his legs off easily.
Our spies down at at Soul Supremacy Rio inform us that McCarthy has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

McCarthy is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Gunner defends well.

McCarthy working for a triangle but Gunner defends it easily.
McCarthy working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Gunner.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gunner is working McCarthy over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Gunner might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Gunner in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

McCarthy looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
McCarthy is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

McCarthy looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Gunner postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Gunner working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of McCarthy's head.
McCarthy keeping moving, preventing Gunner from controlling successfully.
Gunner is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because McCarthy is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

McCarthy has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Gunner is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for McCarthy.

McCarthy managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Gunner.
McCarthy is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Gunner's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
McCarthy is staying active underneath Gunner, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

McCarthy looking for submissions off his back.
McCarthy is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Gunner scores with a couple of nice shots.
McCarthy on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

McCarthy actively working from the bottom here.
Gunner is keen to just control but McCarthy is a slippery customer.

McCarthy is pressing down on Gunner's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

McCarthy looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Gunner has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing McCarthy to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Gunner is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - McCarthy pulls down on the head and he's put Gunner to sleep! This one is all over!
