PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Arthur King (ranked 1143 p4p, 1208 weight class) and Danny Stewart (ranked 150 p4p, 157 weight class). Stewart has chosen Tupac - Hit 'Em Up as his entrance music. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Arthur King!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Danny Stewart!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Alec Ball and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stewart with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Stewart lands a lovely overhand right.
A big right from Stewart misses.
Danny Stewart seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Stewart stuffs the takedown.
We've been hearing reports that King has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Stewart misses with a hook.
King gets cracked there but stands up to it.
King takes a swing at Stewart's ribcage but misses.
Stewart avoids the body shot from King.
Stewart lands a really nice looking cross but King seems unphased.

and King counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Stewart is staying active underneath King, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Stewart felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

King is looking to take a break and control but Stewart is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Stewart is in a horrible position here. King smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

King tries to control but Stewart wriggling away.
King postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Stewart looks a forlorn figure.

Stewart can't escape the position.
King looking to control but Stewart is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
King prevents Stewart from getting the reversal.
Stewart holds on, trying desperately to control.

King throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Stewart because King loaded up on that one.

King has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

King goes for an armbar but Stewart turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Stewart.
King controls Stewart momentarily but Stewart frees himself.
King tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Stewart must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

King looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Stewart postures up.

King escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Stewart gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
King has his hands on Stewart's head, controlling the position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
King controls Stewart momentarily but Stewart frees himself.
King is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Stewart wants to stand but King is controlling his posture from full guard.
Stewart postures up.
King wants to sweep but no luck.
King looking to control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

That's seven minutes gone in the round.
Stewart looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
It looked like King wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Danny Stewart is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
King just misses with a punch to the body.
King throws a jab but it's blocked by Stewart.
King closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
King fails with a takedown attempt.
King uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Stewart.
Stewart misses with a left hand

and King counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
King postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
King throws a big elbow that misses.

King with a nice head shot there.

Stewart is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
King controls from within his opponent's guard.
King postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
King trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Stewart is trying to control the position from the bottom.
King throws a big elbow that misses.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as King accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
King trying to control the position from guard on top but Stewart is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

King postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Stewart is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of King, into his guard.

King is controlling Stewart's posture.
King looking to hit a scissor sweep but Stewart is one step ahead there.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

King is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Stewart frees his head nicely. Oh but King has switched to an armbar! Stewart is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
