AW Invitational - Round 9 PBP Commentary |
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the lightweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Rio de Janeiro, with a TWGC record of 4 wins and 1 losses; Cleetus Boone! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Sydney, with a TWGC record of 6 wins and 2 losses; Ernest Chabot! The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Reed Andrews and John Roberts.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. No luck with that takedown attempt from Boone. Chabot stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Chabot wants it to stay on the feet. Chabot looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Boone! Score +4 for clean takedown past guard: Boone (0) vs (4) Chabot The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Chabot tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. Chabot is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Boone will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. It looks like Chabot might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Boone might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Boone prevents Chabot from moving into mount. You can see the frustration on Boone's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Boone prevents Chabot from improving position. Boone is trying to get back to half guard. Chabot controls the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Boone is trying to control Chabot's posture but Chabot avoids it. Chabot is a very stocky fighter. Infact he's such a weird shape that he's almost like some sort of comedy character - it's hard to believe he's real. Boone prevents Chabot from moving into mount. Chabot in side control, just content to control the action for now. Chabot's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Boone stops Chabot from passing to mount. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Boone is being controlled here. Boone tries to bench press Chabot off him but Chabot keeps the position. Chabot takes a little break here. Boone wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. Boone prevents Chabot from moving into mount.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Boone is trying to get back to half guard. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. Chabot tries to move to mount but Boone blocks the move with his legs.
That's five minutes gone in the round. The referee asks Chabot politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Chabot prefers to stall for the moment though. Boone sneaks back into half guard. Chabot perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Chabot is thwarting Boone's attempts to control the position.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Still in half guard, Chabot seems content to control.
That's seven minutes gone in the round.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. Boone is trying to maintain the position but Chabot is very close to passing his half guard. Chabot stalling.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Boone trying to control from the bottom.
Chabot performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Boone tries to get to full guard but Chabot has control of the leg.
That's ten minutes gone in the round. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Chabot is thwarting Boone's attempts to control the position. Chabot trying to control the pace. Chabot moves nicely into side control. Score +3 for passing guard: Boone (0) vs (7) Chabot
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here as Chabot stalls from top position. Boone prevents Chabot from moving into mount. Chabot controls the position from side control. Chabot tries to move to full mount but Boone actually manages to regain half guard. Chabot is pressing down on Boone's thigh, looking to free his foot. Boone is holding on for now. Chabot wants to advance to full mount but Boone doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Chabot controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Boone is trying to keep Chabot in close.
Chabot trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Chabot is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Boone working a defensive guard here.
Chabot slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! More stalling from Chabot. Boone is trying to keep Chabot in close.
