SSG 251 Gaul vs Cahute PBP Commentary |
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of St Petersburg, with a TWGC record of 28 wins and 15 losses; Lamban Gaul! And in the blue corner, fighting out of London, with a TWGC record of 18 wins and 17 losses; Gaston Cahute! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Percy O'Donnell and Don Winkell.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Cahute shoots in looking for a takedown. Gaul tries to sprawl out of it but Cahute keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gaul manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Gaul slaps away a takedown attempt from Cahute, before circling back to the center of the mat. Cahute tries to score a power double leg takedown but Gaul sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Cahute somewhat. Gaul changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Lamban Gaul has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gaston Cahute. Gaul darts in and clinches Cahute up against the cage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gaul lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Gaul performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Cahute felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Cahute won't allow Gaul to pass to mount.

Cahute is holding on to half guard well. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cahute wants to improve his position but Gaul is controlling well.

Cahute moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Gaul wants to control from the top but Cahute keeps moving. Gaul wants to pass the guard but Cahute is keeping the position. Gaul stays in close to Cahute's body and controls the position.

The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Gaul has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Cahute is trying to control the position but Gaul postures up. Gaul slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Gaul pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. He's turning a lovely shade of purple and yep! He's tapping out! I would say world class Jiu Jitsu but is it really? It was nice but let's not get silly about it.
