This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 8 wins and 4 losses; Duncan Idaho! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Tokyo, with a TWGC record of 5 wins and 10 losses; John Johns! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Percy O'Donnell and Jack Bonds.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Johns gets in close and instigates a clinch. Idaho drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Johns gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Idaho has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Johns uses from the top position. Johns preventing the sweep. Idaho has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Johns is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Idaho. Johns really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Idaho. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Idaho tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Johns wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Idaho sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Idaho moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Idaho is on top in guard.

Johns felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Idaho wants to finish this one by submission but Johns is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Idaho. Idaho jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Johns manages to avoid the submission attempt. Idaho swings around for an armbar but Johns sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Idaho's guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Idaho (7) vs (5) Johns Idaho is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Johns defends well. Johns wants to control from the top but Idaho keeps moving. Johns got a little sloppy there for a moment and Idaho has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Johns has managed to get both his arms back between Idaho's legs - danger averted. Johns must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Johns wants to control from the top but Idaho keeps moving. Idaho has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Johns can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Idaho is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Johns defends well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Idaho keeping moving, preventing Johns from controlling successfully. Idaho is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Johns has his hands clasped together but Idaho extends and breaks Johns's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Idaho.
