This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 40 wins and 23 losses; Vasiliy Kulik! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 30 wins and 37 losses; Anthony Lavicci! The judges for this bout are James Glass, Colin Fotheringham and James Atkins.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Lavicci gets tackled into the ropes by Kulik. Kulik maintains the clinch. Lavicci has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Kulik regains guard immediately. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Kulik (0) vs (2) Lavicci Kulik has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage. Lavicci trying to control the position from guard on top but Kulik is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Lavicci tries to free his leg and advance position but Kulik is retaining full guard. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Lavicci is still trying to improve position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kulik looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Lavicci looking to pass the guard. Kulik really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Lavicci advances position into side control! Score +3 for passing guard: Kulik (0) vs (5) Lavicci Lavicci slows the pace down.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kulik tries to bench press Lavicci off him but Lavicci keeps the position. Kulik is not content to let Lavicci control the position. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Lavicci working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though. Lavicci working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Lavicci is trying to move to mount but Kulik reverses beautifully and ends up in Lavicci's guard. That's three minutes gone in the round. Kulik pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Lavicci is keeping the position for now. Kulik stopping the sweep attempt from Lavicci. Lavicci managing to control the position. Kulik trying to control the position from guard on top but Lavicci is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kulik controls from within his opponent's guard. Kulik being controlled here momentarily. Kulik sitting in guard, not really doing much.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Lavicci wants to sweep but no luck. Lavicci looking to control.
Kulik is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Lavicci tries to land a sweep but no joy. Kulik controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Kulik wants to control from the top but Lavicci keeps moving. Lavicci working a defensive guard here.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Kulik is fighting to break Lavicci's control of his arms but Lavicci is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Lavicci looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Kulik showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. Kulik slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Score +3 for passing guard: Kulik (5) vs (5) Lavicci Kulik is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Lavicci's shoulder. That is not cool. Lavicci is trying to get back to half guard. Lavicci can't do much from the bottom here.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Lavicci is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Kulik off and has taken his back! Score +4 for clean sweep to past guard: Kulik (5) vs (9) Lavicci Kulik tries to escape but Lavicci has the hooks in and won't let him break free. Kulik prevents Lavicci from getting a body triangle. Lavicci has good solid back control here. Kulik looking very determined here, making life difficult for Lavicci.
Kulik manages to reverse the position and now he's in Lavicci's guard. Nice work there by Kulik.

That's ten minutes gone in the round. Kulik preventing the sweep. Kulik pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Lavicci is keeping the position for now. Lavicci is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Lavicci has Kulik pulled in close to control his posture.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Kulik sitting in guard here, content to control. Kulik wants to pass the guard but Lavicci is keeping the position. Kulik trying to control but Lavicci is working from the bottom. Kulik content to stall in guard here.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Lavicci is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Kulik stays in close to Lavicci's body and controls the position. Lavicci is pulling down on Kulik's head. It's preventing any offense from Kulik, at least for the moment. Well,Kulik is on his way to losing a decision here. Can he use his experience to pull something off in the closing minutes? Kulik postures up.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Kulik stands and throws Lavicci's legs to the side, diving into side control. Score +3 for passing guard: Kulik (10) vs (9) Lavicci Lavicci is looking for a sweep. Lavicci seems a little lost for a moment, as Kulik dominates the positioning. Kulik wants to control for a moment but Lavicci uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Kulik trying to pass the guard but Lavicci defending well. Kulik is looking to stall here but Lavicci recovers full guard. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Lavicci wants to control the position but Kulik says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Kulik takes the fight on points by 10 to 9. Vasiliy Kulik seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website. |
