Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Johnny Quid! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Walter Kingston! The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Richard Clark and Andrew Berry.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Quid gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Kingston thows a big elbow that misses. Kingston drops back, looking for a kneebar! Quid looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Quid looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Quid! Quid trying to control the position but Kingston is working away. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kingston is trying to control Quid's posture but Quid avoids it. Kingston is looking for a sweep. Quid advances nicely into full mount. Quid avoids the attempt from Kingston to control. Kingston really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kingston regains half guard. Quid is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Kingston sees it coming and defends easily. Kingston blocking the ground and pound attempt from Quid. Kingston is trying to control but can't.
Kingston tries to roll over but Quid keeps him under control. Kingston is trying to maintain the position but Quid is very close to passing his half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Quid seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Quid winds up and cracks Kingston with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Quid missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Quid is looking for a kimura here.
Kingston is looking for a sweep. Quid is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Quid sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Kingston defending well though. Quid prevents Kingston from improving his position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kingston moves into full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Quid is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Kingston has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Quid is looking to defend but Kingston has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Quid! Kingston pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Quid taps out and this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:25 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Walter Kingston! Walter Kingston is the new lightweight champion!
