Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jorge Cordes! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Matthew Summers! The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Winston Howard and Bruno Hogan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cordes closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Cordes lands in his opponent's guard. Summers looking to control.
Cordes controls from within his opponent's guard. Cordes connects with a couple of short punches. Summers trying to keep a closed guard but Cordes is proving a slippery customer.
Cordes sitting in guard here, content to control. Summers working for a triangle but Cordes defends it easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cordes gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Cordes shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Summers wants to control but Cordes is having none of it. Summers tries to get back to half guard but can't. Cordes controlling from the full mount. Summers throwing hammer fists to the chest of Cordes. What's that going to do exactly? Cordes wants to finish this one by submission but Summers is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Cordes. Summers is looking to get to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cordes content just to control the position here. Summers tries to get back to half guard but can't. Summers tries to hold on but Cordes postures up. Cordes scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Cordes lands a big elbow. Summers wants to hold on but Cordes pushes him away. Summers looks gassed! Cordes raining down shots from the mount!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Summers is desperately trying to improve his position but Cordes has a good base and remains in mount. Cordes blocks Summers's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom. Summers tries to lock up and control but Cordes gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Summers wants to hold on but Cordes pushes him away. Cordes fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

That's four minutes gone in the round. Cordes tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Cordes lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Summers with a poor takedown and Cordes counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Summers working for a triangle but Cordes defends it easily.
Cordes scoring with some ground and pound. Cordes is stalling in the full guard. Summers throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Cordes escapes and throws Summers's legs to the side, diving into side control! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! The referee asks Cordes politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Cordes prefers to stall for the moment though. Summers is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cordes moves into full mount! Cordes gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks! Cordes looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Cordes decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. Cordes shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Summers's guard. Summers wants to sweep but no luck. Cordes forces his way into half guard. Cordes uses his free foot to push down on Summers's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Summers. Cordes controlling the position easily from mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Summers tries to reverse the position but Cordes maintains control. Cordes scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Cordes get's back to his feet. This has been an exciting period of action! Cordes lands a jab. Summers has his takedown stuffed and Cordes counters by clinching up. An uppercut to the body lands inside from Cordes. Cordes works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Summers had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Cordes is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Summers Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Cordes's back instead. Summers has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Summers is looking for a choke. Cordes gets to his feet with his opponent on his back and slams him to the mat. Cordes manages to squirm out of the attempted choke and turns into his opponent's guard. Cordes decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Summers, up you get! Cordes shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Cordes stands up from Summers's guard - Cordes perhaps looking for a knockout. Cordes tries to bum rush Summers with a series of wild strikes but Summers uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Summers misses with a takedown and Cordes counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Jorge Cordes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matthew Summers. Summers not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Cordes controls from within his opponent's guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Cordes drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Cordes jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Summers manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cordes manages to get himself to full guard.
Jorge Cordes overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Cordes is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a tringle but Summers frees his head nicely. Oh but Cordes has switched to an armbar! Summers is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
