This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 11 wins and 13 losses; Elazar Shalit! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Helsinki, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 1 losses; Ruslan Danilov! The judges for this bout are Josh West, Paul Gruel and Jeff Smith.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Danilov fails with an attempt to clinch.
Shalit half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Danilov leaves Shalit with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Shalit drives through and clinches with Danilov against the cage.
Danilov has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Shalit is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position. Shalit trying to control but Danilov is having none of it. Danilov tries to control Shalit's body but Shalit pushes him off. Danilov squirms to his side and now Shalit has his back! That's four minutes gone in the round. Shalit working for the choke. Shalit not allowing Danilov to control his hands. Shalit looking for the choke but no joy. Danilov staying busy and making it hard for Shalit to control. Danilov trying to control but not successfully.
That's five minutes gone in the round. You can see the frustration on Danilov's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Danilov manages to reverse the position and now he's in Shalit's guard. Nice work there by Danilov.

Danilov wants to work for an arm triangle but Shalit is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Danilov is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Shalit is just riding it out for now. Danilov eventually gives up the hold. Shalit is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Danilov is trying to control the action in half guard but Shalit is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Shalit gets full guard.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. Danilov looking to pass the guard. Shalit might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Shalit wants to sweep but no luck. Danilov pushing down on Shalit's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Danilov is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
