PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Donny Knightley (ranked 701 p4p, 464 weight class) and Fotos Hasapis (ranked 85 p4p, 56 weight class). Knightley comes to the cage accompanied by The Top - Ken Blast. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Donny Knightley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Fotos Hasapis!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Richard Clark and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Knightley throws a good cross that connects.

It looks like Fotos Hasapis has been cut.
Knightley delivers a nice body kick.
A punch lands to the side of Knightley 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Hasapis lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Knightley tests Hasapis's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Hasapis tries to work over Knightley's front leg with a kick but Knightley checks it.
Good exchange - Hasapis coming out on top.

Hasapis scores with a takedown into Knightley's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Knightley is controlling Hasapis's posture.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hasapis throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Knightley works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Hasapis got a little sloppy there for a moment and Knightley has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hasapis has managed to get both his arms back between Knightley's legs - danger averted.

Hasapis thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Knightley has his hands on Hasapis's head, controlling the position.
Hasapis in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Knightley has an active guard here but Hasapis has managed to pass into half guard.
Hasapis looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Hasapis is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Knightley is in all sorts of trouble here.

Hasapis has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hasapis lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Knightley wants to hold on but Hasapis pushes him away.
Knightley is bucking up trying to escape but Hasapis cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Knightley is trying desperately to improve position.

Hasapis cracks Knightley with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Hasapis landing strikes from the mount.
Knightley is trying to escape the mount.
Knightley knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hasapis on the ground.
Knightley controls the position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Hasapis tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Hasapis moves out of range as Knightley strikes.
Hasapis feints the counter takedown.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hasapis shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Hasapis working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Knightley is trying to control the position but Hasapis postures up.

Fotos Hasapis has got the better of the ground game so far.

Knightley escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hasapis gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Knightley has Hasapis pulled in close to control his posture.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Knightley throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Knightley takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Hasapis takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Knightley feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Hasapiss jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Knightley looks to land a right hand but Hasapis moved out of range.
Hasapis lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Knightley at a distance.
Knightley swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Hasapis! But no joy.
Knightley stuffs the takedown attempt from Hasapis. Hasapis gets slowly back to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hasapis throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Knightley's waist but Knightley gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hasapis off to one side.
Hasapis misses with the combination.
Knightley swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Fotos Hasapis will probably get the nod - 10:9.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Knightley ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hasapis moves away.
Nice body kick there by Knightley.
Knightley misses with a body kick.
Hasapis takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Knightley showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Hasapis.

Hasapis motions for Knightley to come forward. Hasapis throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Knightley jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
Hasapis cracks Knightley with a right hand to the side of the head.

Knightley misses with a hook.
Hasapis unleashes a big counter combination but Knightley bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Knightley takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Hasapis uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Knightley.
Hasapis changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Knightley walks into a straight right hand from Hasapis.
Hasapis misses with a hook
and Knightley counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Knightley throws a hook but Hasapis avoids it easily.
Hasapis looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Hasapis connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Hasapis swings for the body but Knightley moves out of range.
Hasapis slips under a jab.
Hasapis tries a quick counter leg kick but Knightley is wise to it.
Knightley throws a push kick but Hasapis slaps the foot to one side.

Knightley slips a straight right by Hasapis.
Hasapis looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.

That has opened up Fotos Hasapis's cut even more.
Hasapis shoots in but Knightley avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Knightley throws a lazy body kick
and Hasapis counters with a stiff right hand.
Hasapis fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Knightley.
Hasapis lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Knightley throws the left hand but Hasapis avoids the punch easily.
Hasapis is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Donny Knightley is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Hasapis fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Knightley avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Hasapis fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Donny Knightley has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fotos Hasapis.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Fotos Hasapis comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Hasapis has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
