Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alexei Sykov (ranked 2640 p4p, 5269 weight class) and Magomed Omarov (ranked 328 p4p, 512 weight class). Magomed Omarov will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Magomed Omarov!
The judges for this bout are Darius Henderson, John Mangel and Bruno Hogan.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sykov on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Omarov throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Omarov clinches.
Sykov is trying to pull guard but Omarov turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Omarov creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Sykov swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Sykov will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Omarov up against the cage.

I was talking to Sykov's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Sykov is fighting off a takedown attempt but Omarov is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Sykov to the mat. Sykov regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

My spies in 3Band MMA inform me that Omarov has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
