PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between River Waters (ranked 3777 p4p, 5140 weight class) and Mauricio Nunes (ranked 436 p4p, 494 weight class). Both these guys are coming into the fight with injuries so let's see if that has a bearing on the fight. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, River Waters!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mauricio Nunes!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Sam Margolis and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Nunes drives through and clinches with Waters against the cage.
Waters looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

Nunes thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Nunes looks to land a right hand but Waters moved out of range.
Nice uppercut lands for Nunes. That snapped Waters's head back.

Waters tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Nunes smiles and moves away.

Nunes is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Nunes throws a looping overhand right but Waters ducks down to avoid it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
A telegraphed right hand from Nunes misses the target.

Nunes closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Nunes has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Waters uses from the top position.

Waters slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Mauricio Nunes comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Nunes has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
