Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bernardo Cabral! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Paul Nichols! The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Daniel Bishop and Richard Clark.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nichols dips down and scores with a jab to the body. A momentary lapse in concentration from Nichols enables Cabral to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Nichols manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Nichols can do anything to dispel that myth. Cabral sitting in guard, not really doing much. Cabral drops back looking for a leg! Nichols is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Nichols manages to kick Cabral off! Cabral jumps back into Nichols's guard. Nichols working a defensive guard here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cabral pushes down on Nichols's leg and manages to get into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cabral wants to work for an arm triangle but Nichols is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Cabral is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cabral content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Cabral is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Cabral is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Nichols is surviving well by controlling Cabral's body position as best he can. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Cabral content just to control the position here. Cabral throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Nichols has his hands clasped together but Cabral breaks the hold and Nichols is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Cabral!
