PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mau Castro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rodrigo Ferraz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ferraz has chosen Otario as his entrance music. Mau Castro has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mau Castro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rodrigo Ferraz!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Daniel Cesar and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ferraz throws a head kick but Castro moves out of range.
Ferraz stuffs the takedown.

Ferraz bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Ferraz tries to move into full mount but can't pass Castro's legs.

Ferraz thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Ferraz stands up.

Ferraz changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Castro looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ferraz throws a strike aimed at the side of Castro's head but Castro avoids it well.
Castro is looking for a sweep.
Ferraz trying to control the action but Castro is working from the bottom.
Castro is letting Ferraz control him for a moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Castro manages to get back to half guard.
Ferraz is trying to control. Castro wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Ferraz thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Castro avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Ferraz.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Castro is staying active underneath Ferraz, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Ferraz throwing shots but Castro is blocking nicely.
Castro is looking to improve his position.
Ferraz is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Ferraz sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Castro defending well though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Ferraz shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Castro is breathing heavily.
Ferraz wants to take Castro's back here but Castro is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
Ferraz content just to control the position here.
Castro is in all sorts of trouble here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rodrigo Ferraz dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Castro shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Ferraz counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Castro's guard now.
Ferraz pushes down on Castro's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Ferraz looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Ferraz tries to stand and escape but Castro is controlling the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ferraz throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Ferraz is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Ferraz passes to side control.

Ferraz decides to stand back up. Ferraz steps back and let's Castro get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Ferraz closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Check out the look on Ferraz's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Ferraz is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Ferraz tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ferraz has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Ferraz is looking to take a break and control but Castro is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Ferraz misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Ferraz moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

Ferraz stands up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rodrigo Ferraz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!



Ferraz drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Ferraz trying to control the position but Castro is working away.
Castro stops Ferraz from passing to mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ferraz wants to control but Castro is keeping him busy.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ferraz has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Castro!
Castro is in a horrible position here. Ferraz smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Ferraz controlling from mount.

Castro has left one of his arms exposed and Ferraz doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Castro screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:02 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Rodrigo Ferraz!
