PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Julius Chaney (ranked 4047 p4p, 3604 weight class) and Alex Jota (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jota has a pretty significant injury - he really shouldn't be fighting right now but he's a warrior and he's here none the less! Alex Jota has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Julius Chaney!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alex Jota!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, David Schapiro and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chaney shoots in and drives through. Jota sprawls well.
Jota looks winded!
Jota defending well as Chaney loads up on a big left hand.
Jota leaves Chaney with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Chaney tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Jota manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Jota gets tackled into the cage by Chaney. Chaney maintains the clinch.
Jota is trying to pull guard but Chaney has him pressed against the cage.
Jota tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Chaney smiles and moves away.
Chaney throws a series of punches but Jota avoids them all with ease.
Jota is looking to clinch.
Chaney was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chaney tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Jota manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Chaney closes the distance and clinches up with Jota, looking for a takedown. Chaney pushes Jota against the cage but Jota circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Chaney could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Jota replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Chaney blocks it well.
Chaney throws a sloppy head kick and Jota moves out of range easily.
Jota is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Chaney with a body shot.
Chaney looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Jota tries to counter with a clinch but Chaney shakes him off and moves away.

Jota steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Chaney.
Chaney dives in for a single leg takedown but Jota sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Chaney has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Jota uses from the top position.

Jota drops back looking for a leg! Chaney is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Chaney manages to kick Jota off! Jota jumps back into Chaney's guard.

Jota drops back looking for a leg! Chaney is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Chaney manages to kick Jota off! Jota jumps back into Chaney's guard.

Chaney looking to hit a scissor sweep but Jota is one step ahead there.
Chaney wants to get back to his feet but Jota is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
We've been informed that Jota has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
No luck for Chaney with that takedown attempt.
Jota tries to close the distance and clinch but Chaney swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Horrible takedown attempt by Chaney or perhaps it was just good defense by Jota, which made it look bad.

It looks like Alex Jota has been cut.
Chaney shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Jota sprawls well. Jota wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Chaney gets slowly back to his feet.
Jota unleashes a big counter combination but Chaney bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Chaney dives in for a single leg takedown but Jota sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
A countering left hand to the body from Jota misses.
Chaney misses with a knee strike.
Chaney is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Chaney shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Jota defends it nicely.
As Chaney backs off Jota throws a huge counter combo but Chaney manages to avoid it all.
Julius Chaney is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Jota gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Chaney to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Chaney trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Jota thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Jota got a little sloppy there for a moment and Chaney has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Jota has managed to get both his arms back between Chaney's legs - danger averted.
Jota seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Alex Jota seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Jota jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Chaney walks away with a smile on his face. Jota gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Chaney fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Jota avoids it really well and circles away.
Chaney fails with an attempt to clinch.
Chaney is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Jota swats away the attempt to clinch by Chaney.

Alex Jota comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Jota winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
