This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 4 wins and 5 losses; Bjj Catch Wrestler! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 43 wins and 26 losses; Vasiliy Kulik! The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Donald Grub and Sam Margolis.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Catch Wrestler gets tackled into the cage by Kulik. Kulik maintains the clinch. Kulik tries to score a body lock takedown but Catch Wrestler shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Kulik has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Catch Wrestler uses from the top position. Catch Wrestler content to stall in guard here. Catch Wrestler looking to pass the guard. Catch Wrestler has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Catch Wrestler might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Kulik tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Catch Wrestler sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Kulik is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Catch Wrestler is working to get back to half guard.

That's nine minutes gone in the round. Kulik sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Kulik wants to take Catch Wrestler's back here but Catch Wrestler is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
Catch Wrestler wants to hold on but Kulik pushes him away. Kulik has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at KFA. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one. Catch Wrestler stops Kulik from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better. Kulik controlling from mount.
That's ten minutes gone in the round. Catch Wrestler is controlling an arm, preventing Kulik from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Kulik takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Kulik's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Catch Wrestler sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Kulik is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Catch Wrestler trying to hold on to Kulik's head to control him but Kulik postures up.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Kulik in particular looking to stall.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. It looks like Kulik might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Kulik wants to pass the guard but Catch Wrestler is defending well. Catch Wrestler has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kulik is working away from the top position though. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Kulik tries to pass the half guard into mount. Catch Wrestler knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
And that's the end of the fight! Kulik wins on points by 7 to 0. After winning the bout, Vasiliy Kulik thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility. |
