PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sim Hwan (ranked 4053 p4p, 3800 weight class) and Louis Gibson (ranked 440 p4p, 421 weight class). Hwan comes into the arena with The Chant of Metta (Pali) blaring out of the sound system. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sim Hwan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Louis Gibson!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Shirou Masuda and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hwan throws a series of strikes that have Gibson backpedaling.

It looks like Louis Gibson has been cut.
Hwan connects with a jab.

Gibson manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Hwan on his heels. He'll look to pass Hwan's guard now, I'm sure.
Hwan knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gibson on the ground.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Gibson working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Hwan is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Hwan trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gibson is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Hwan defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Hwan manages to escape to his feet.

enabling Hwan to counter with a crisp jab.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Gibson.
Hwan has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hwan is not content to let Gibson control the position.
Hwan is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Hwan's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Nice straight punches there by Hwan. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Hwan.

Sim Hwan is winning the standup battle so far.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Hwan lands a big uppercut and Gibson crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Gibson looks OK. Hwan waves Gibson back to his feet!

Gibson is rocked!

That has opened up Louis Gibson's cut even more.
Gibson is breathing heavily.
Gibson takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Gibson is still on wobbly legs! Can Hwan finish him?
Hwan lunges in with a left hook that violently twists Gibson head around and knocks him out cold! Hwan hops onto the cage and yells out at the top of his lungs - Yeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaah! They're showing the replay on the big screens now; that was nasty! I hope one of the photographers got a good shot of it.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Sim Hwan!
