PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Calin Marks (ranked 4190 p4p, 4712 weight class) and Joash Ng (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Calin Marks has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Calin Marks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joash Ng!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Andrew Berry and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ng moves into the clinch successfully.

Ng pulls guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Ng throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Ng lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ng accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Marks not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Marks doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Ng throwing strikes but missing.
Ng has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Ng drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ng jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ng postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Marks is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Ng, into his guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ng thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Marks got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ng has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Marks has managed to get both his arms back between Ng's legs - danger averted.
Marks loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ng postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Ng passes into half guard.

Ng is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Marks sees it coming and defends easily.

Ng thows a huge punch but Marks dodges it nicely.
Marks pushes Ng off looking to stand but Ng dives back in and keeps control.

Ng is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Ng is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Marks is just riding it out for now. Ng eventually gives up the hold.
Marks wants to get back to his feet.
Marks keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ng lands strikes from half guard.

Marks looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Ng is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Marks is breathing heavily.

Ng is looking for a kimura but Marks is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ng to get the leverage.

Marks is defending against the submission attempts here by Ng.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Joash Ng dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Marks on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Marks tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Despite the aggression on Ng's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Marks shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Ng but Ng pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Marks swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Ng counters with a series of strikes. Marks will be more careful next time no doubt.
Joash Ng seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Marks fails in his attempt to clinch.
Marks shoots in for a double leg but Ng sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Marks really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Ng closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Marks to the mat! Marks manages to get full guard.
Ng keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Marks's head.

Marks is rocked!

Ng gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Oh Marks is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Ng gets in close and tags Marks with a short punch that almost sends Marks to the mat! Oh Marks is in big trouble! He turns his back on Ng, trying to create some distance but Ng rushes him, striking wildly and Marks goes down! The referee tackles Ng into the cage to end the fight! Ng is one violent man!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Joash Ng!
