PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sim Hwan (ranked 4047 p4p, 25171 weight class) and Nathan Lee (ranked 459 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Hwan might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to The Chant of Metta (Pali). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Nathan Lee enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sim Hwan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Nathan Lee! The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Yukihiro Shimada.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lee misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Hwan gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Hwan wants to stand and escape but Lee is having none of it. Hwan manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hwan has had enough of the clinch but Lee keeps him there for the moment. Lee is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Lee breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Hwan scores to the head and body with a nice combination! Hwan feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Lee sprawling to the canvas! Lee rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Hwan finish him?!
Lee is rocked! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Hwan finds Lee's off switch, with a big overhand right that connects perfectly to the side of the head! Lee flops back against the cage, eyes gazing into the distance. Hwan lands an unnecessary shot before the referee has time to step in and end the fight. Brutal stuff but I'm sure Lee will be OK.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Sim Hwan!
