PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kyle McKenna (ranked 5509 p4p, 4002 weight class) and Aryan Pande (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Aryan Pande told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kyle McKenna!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Aryan Pande!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Gwen Towbar and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pande fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
McKenna misses with a body shot.
Pande misses with a double jab.
McKenna is looking to counter the offense by Pande and move into the clinch.
Pande misses with a series of wild punches.

McKenna shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Pande is looking to get back to is feet but McKenna passes into side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pande tries to bench press McKenna off him but McKenna keeps the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pande keeps trying to improve his position.
McKenna advances to full mount.
Pande is in a horrible position here. McKenna smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
McKenna can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Pande is looking to escape.

Pande is squirming around, avoiding McKenna's attempts to control the action.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pande regains half guard.

McKenna is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Pande is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
McKenna wants to take a breather but Pande is having none of it.

McKenna is trying to work for a kimura but Pande is defending well.
Pande is trying to defend against the ground and pound but McKenna scores with a couple of nice shots.
McKenna is trying to control the action in half guard but Pande is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Pande has his hands clasped together around McKenna's back. He's all about the action.
McKenna not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
McKenna misses with a takedown attempt - Pande sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Pande is looking for the big counter here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Pande gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows McKenna to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Pande is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst McKenna is controlling him.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from McKenna is defended easily by Pande.

Pande shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Pande was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
McKenna is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Pande's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Pande is working for a submission of some sort.
McKenna is staying active underneath Pande, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

McKenna is looking to control Pande's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can McKenna avoid being mounted?
Pande wants to stand up but McKenna is controlling the position.
Pande landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

McKenna actively working from the bottom here.
Pande is controlling the pace.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Pande is looking to take a break and control but McKenna is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
McKenna is trying to maintain the position but Pande is very close to passing his half guard.
Pande tries to stand and escape but McKenna is controlling the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
McKenna swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
McKenna lands a nice looking kick to the body. Pande takes a step back to recover.

McKenna swinging wildly here.
Pande circles away from the clinch attempt.
A head kick misses from Pande.
Pande shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says McKenna as he avoids it easily.

McKenna shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Pande manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
McKenna wants to control from the top but Pande keeps moving.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Pande is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and McKenna defends well.
Pande is looking to stand back up but McKenna counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Pande.
McKenna takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Pande is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute McKenna jumps into side control!

McKenna is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Pande knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Pande struggling a bit here.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Kyle McKenna dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

McKenna swats away the attempt to clinch by Pande.
Pande closes the distance but McKenna moves to the side

and McKenna counters with a shoot takedown. Pande fights it but they end up in guard.

Pande has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. McKenna has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Pande is pressed up against the cage. McKenna has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Pande down to the mat. Pande avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Pande will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Kyle McKenna is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Pande tries to clinch but McKenna moves out of range.
A low kick from Pande is predictable there

and McKenna counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Pande can do anything to dispel that myth.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
McKenna stops Pande from getting back to his feet.
McKenna is keen to just control but Pande is a slippery customer.

Pande wants to control but McKenna is keeping busy.
Pande takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Pande wants to control but McKenna passes into side.
Pande is pushing McKenna's head away, looking to escape. McKenna manages to hold on to the position though.
Kyle McKenna overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Pande tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but McKenna presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

McKenna is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Pande has managed to escape the submission attempt.
McKenna connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
McKenna wants to control the pace but Pande is squirming around nicely.
Pande tries to control the position but McKenna now has his back.

McKenna looking to break Pande's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Pande remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise McKenna will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
What can Pande do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

McKenna working for the rear naked choke here. He's got one arm under but Pande is defending well. A couple of punches soften him up though and McKenna has tightened the hold! This one could be all over! It is! Pande taps out!
