This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of London, with a TWGC record of 3 wins and 4 losses; Zurab Nozadzi! And in the blue corner, fighting out of London, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 7 losses; Luis Marrero! The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Steven Brown and James Ackerman.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Nozadzi circles away from the clinch attempt.
Nozadzi feinted with a counter takedown. Nozadzi drives through and clinches with Marrero against the cage.
Marrero is trying to drag Nozadzi to the mat but Nozadzi just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Nozadzi has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Marrero after a bit of a struggle. Nozadzi wants the takedown. Marrero is fighting it off but Nozadzi persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Marrero's guard against the cage. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Nozadzi (2) vs (0) Marrero Marrero is trying to control the position but Nozadzi postures up. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Marrero is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Nozadzi definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Marrero can do anything to dispel that myth. Nozadzi advances to half guard. Nozadzi is controlling the pace.
Marrero is looking to get back to full guard here but Nozadzi has managed to pass to side control instead. Score +3 for passing guard: Nozadzi (5) vs (0) Marrero We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nozadzi staying calm. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nozadzi goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Marrero has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Nozadzi but great work by Marrero. Score +4 for clean sweep to past guard: Nozadzi (5) vs (4) Marrero Nozadzi tries to buck Marrero off but Marrero is having none of it. Marrero tries for a kimura but Nozadzi is defending well. Marrero really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nozadzi. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Nozadzi struggling a bit here. Marrero wants to lay and pray for a moment but Nozadzi keeps working. Marrero is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. Nozadzi gets back to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nozadzi works his way to full guard. Good work. Nozadzi is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Marrero pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Nozadzi is keeping the position for now. Nozadzi is looking to cinch up a triangle. Marrero throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Nozadzi's body to avoid the submission. Nozadzi has instead reached around Marrero's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Nozadzi arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
