This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of London, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 6 losses; Leonard Howell! And in the blue corner, fighting out of London, with a TWGC record of 6 wins and 2 losses; Thiago Cardosi! The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Atkins and Steven Brown.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Howell drives through and clinches with Cardosi against the cage.
Cardosi is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Howell gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Cardosi is trying to trip Howell. He has hold of a leg but Howell is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Cardosi persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Howell (0) vs (2) Cardosi Howell looking to sweep here. No luck so far. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Howell keeping full guard, as Cardosi tries to pass. Cardosi passes easily into side control. Nice work. Score +3 for passing guard: Howell (0) vs (5) Cardosi Howell gets back to half guard. Cardosi looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Cardosi is trying to work for a kimura but Howell is defending well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cardosi works his way into full mount! Score +3 for passing guard: Howell (0) vs (8) Cardosi Howell can't escape the position.

My spies in The Forge 👊 inform me that Cardosi has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Howell rolls, trying to escape but Cardosi keeps control of the position.

Cardosi is looking to control Howell but Howell is wriggling around and keeping busy. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cardosi has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Howell has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Howell tries to escape but Cardosi has the hooks in and won't let him break free. Howell has hold of Cardosi's leg, trying to break free but it's let Cardosi lock up a rear naked choke! This could be big trouble! Howell is turning an unusual color here… he's out! Cardosi throws him to one side and jumps onto the cage to celebrate with his fans.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Thiago Cardosi! A relieved looking Thiago Cardosi thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
