Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Philip Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Gurgel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of

0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, David Gurgel! The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Bruno Lombardi and Franklyn Lucas.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jones throws a nice looking combination but Gurgel bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Jones. Jones swinging wilding here.
Jones defending well as Gurgel loads up on a big left hand. Jones fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Gurgel shoots in for a takedown but Jones shows good takedown defense. Jones swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

and Jones counters with a two punch combo. Jones moves out of range as Gurgel strikes. Jones takes the fight into the clinch. Gurgel throws a punch but it's blocked by Jones. Gurgel pulls Jones into guard.

Gurgel can't keep his opponent in guard - Jones advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Gurgel is refusing to be controlled, as Jones sits in half guard. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Gurgel is looking for a sweep. Jones is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Philip Jones will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Gurgel takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Jones lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky. Jones takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Jones works over Gurgel's head and body with a nice combination. Philip Jones is winning the standup battle so far. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. No luck for Gurgel with that takedown attempt.

Gurgel closes the distance and clinches up with Jones, looking for a takedown. Gurgel pushes Jones against the cage but Jones circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. and Gurgel cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Jones connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Jones fails with a takedown attempt. Jones scores to the head and body with a nice combination! Jones avoids the head kick by Gurgel.

Jones breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Jones lands a jab to Gurgel's midsection. Gurgel is looking to chop away at Jones's legs. Gurgel avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Jones rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Gurgel moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Gurgel tries to clinch but Jones moves away and Jones cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Gurgel has a takedown stuffed. Gurgel stuffs the takedown attempt from Jones. Jones gets slowly back to his feet. Jones moves out of range of the strikes. Gurgel tries a head kick but it misses.
Jones looks for a takedown but Gurgel sprawls well. Gurgel shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Jones as he jumps to the side. Jones throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
A combination from Jones does no damage. Gurgel drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Philip Jones dominated that second round. That's time! Jones's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
Gurgel wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Gurgel shoots and misses and Jones counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Gurgel thinking. Not much technique there but it did the business. Philip Jones is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Jones is looking to wear down Gurgel with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Philip Jones. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Jones, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
