PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Aden Atkinson (ranked 3982 p4p, 3980 weight class) and Lee Valentine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Aden Atkinson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lee Valentine!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Damien Edna and Topper Green.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Atkinson shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Atkinson is looking to take a break and control but Valentine is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Valentine trying to hold on to Atkinson's head to control him but Atkinson postures up.
Valentine preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

Atkinson is looking for a kimura here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Atkinson is looking to pass Valentine's guard but actually Valentine recovers to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Valentine has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Atkinson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Valentine looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Valentine pulls Atkinson in close to his closed guard and prevents Atkinson from doing any damage or advancing position.
Valentine wants to hit a sweep here but Atkinson passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Valentine there!

Valentine is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Valentine working to try and regain half guard.
Atkinson could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Atkinson wants to control the pace but Valentine is squirming around nicely.

Valentine working to try and regain half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Atkinson has control of Valentine's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Valentine regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Valentine is looking to get to half guard.
Atkinson wants to take Valentine's back here but Valentine is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Atkinson takes Valentine's back. Could be looking for a rear naked choke here - either way, Valentine is in trouble.
Valentine rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Valentine is defending against the submission attempts here by Atkinson.
Valentine keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Atkinson throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Valentine tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Atkinson is in Valentine's guard.
Valentine is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Valentine is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Valentine is on top in guard.

Valentine is thwarting Atkinson's attempts to control the position.

Valentine is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Valentine is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Aden Atkinson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Atkinson tries to reverse the position but Valentine maintains control.
Atkinson has given up his back here.

Valentine has the hooks in. Atkinson is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Atkinson is in a bad position with Valentine working for a choke. Atkinson manages to spin nicely into guard and the danger is over for the moment.

Valentine had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Atkinson defends it easily.
Atkinson not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Valentine pulls Atkinson in to control the position.

Valentine keeping moving, preventing Atkinson from controlling successfully.
Atkinson tries to free his leg and advance position but Valentine is retaining full guard.
Atkinson slips nicely into half guard.
Valentine is controlling Atkinson's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Atkinson is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Valentine can do to turn this around?

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Atkinson tries to free his leg and advance position but Valentine is retaining full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Valentine closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Atkinson's guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

A close second round but Lee Valentine will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Valentine changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Atkinson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Atkinson is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Valentine pulls his head out easily.

Atkinson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Valentine is working away from the top position though.
Atkinson is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Atkinson is positioning himself well to prevent Valentine advancing to mount.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Atkinson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Valentine is trying to control the action in half guard but Atkinson is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Valentine is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Lee Valentine comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Valentine has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
