PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Preston Foster (ranked 4220 p4p, 4359 weight class) and Ricky Rivas (ranked 445 p4p, 455 weight class). Rivas has chosen Breathin as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Preston Foster!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ricky Rivas!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Percy O'Donnell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rivas circles away from the clinch attempt.
Rivas takes a kick to the side of the head.
Rivas misses with a wild body shot.
Foster fails in his attempt to clinch.
Rivas feints the counter takedown.
Foster is looking to clinch.
Foster wants to land a leg kick but Rivas is out of range.

and Rivas decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Foster's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Foster tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Rivas slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Rivas stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
A low kick lands for Foster.
Foster throws a head kick that misses.
Rivas doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Rivas looks to score with a jab to the body but Foster is just out of range.
Rivas takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Foster pivots, looking for a leg kick but Rivas is out of range and Foster settles back down.
Foster throws a head kick but Rivas moves out of range.

Rivas scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Rivas slows the pace down.

Let's hope that Rivas has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Foster wants to get back to his feet but Rivas drags him back down.
Foster is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Foster tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Rivas content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Ricky Rivas will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Foster misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Rivas looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Foster fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Rivas is out of range.
Rivas swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Foster tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Rivas manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Rivas looks to land a body kick but Foster moved away.
And Foster counters with a quick kick to the body but Rivas blocks it.
A solid leg kick lands there for Foster.
Foster throws a solid leg kick but Rivas takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Foster.

Foster wants to clinch but Rivas slips to the side

and Rivas decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Foster's guard.

Rivas's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Foster is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Rivas can do to turn this around?

Rivas stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Foster.
Foster throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Foster wants to slow Rivas down by chopping away at his legs.
Rivas drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Foster defends it well.
Foster misses with a low kick.
And Rivas tries to counter it with a takedown but Foster pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Rivas throws a head kick but Foster moves out of range.
Rivas takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Rivas ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Foster moves away.

and Rivas counters with a nice double leg into side control. Foster won't be happy with that.

Rivas decides to stand back up.

Foster lands with a slapping head kick.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A head kick from Foster lands but Rivas takes it in his stride.
Foster tries to clinch but Rivas moves away

and Rivas counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Rivas content to stall in guard here.

And that's the end of the fight!
Preston Foster showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Foster has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
