The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Hughes closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Hughes lands in his opponent's guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Loco (0) vs (2) Hughes Loco looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Hughes has picked Loco up and slammed him! Loco can't keep hold of the triangle and Hughes manages to pass to side control! Score +3 for passing guard: Loco (0) vs (5) Hughes Hughes gets to mount! Loco was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly. Score +2 for reaching mount: Loco (0) vs (7) Hughes Loco is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Hughes takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Loco wants to control but Hughes is having none of it. Hughes controlling from the full mount. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Loco tries to hold on but Hughes pushes him away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hughes with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Loco knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hughes on the ground. Hughes is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Loco has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Loco wants to control but Hughes is having none of it. Hughes is working for a guillotine from mount but Loco frees his head quite easily.
