In the red corner, competing out of Sydney, with a TWGC record of 5 wins and 5 losses; Marquis Chriss! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 0 losses; Deuce McWrestler! The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Josh West and Chris Saunders.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Chriss looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Chriss (2) vs (0) McWrestler We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Chriss stays in close to McWrestler's body and controls the position. Chriss stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McWrestler swivels though and keeps the full guard. Chriss has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage. McWrestler wants to sweep here but Chriss controlling him for the moment. McWrestler got a little sloppy there for a moment and Chriss has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, McWrestler has managed to get both his arms back between Chriss's legs - danger averted. Chriss has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but McWrestler can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Chriss is on top in guard.

Chriss reaches up and holds on to McWrestler to control the position. Chriss is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Chriss manages to regain half guard. Good work. McWrestler seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Chriss does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

McWrestler looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Chriss is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but McWrestler pulls his head out easily. McWrestler wants to work for an arm triangle but Chriss is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That's ten minutes gone in the round. McWrestler's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. McWrestler goes for an armbar but Chriss turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Chriss. McWrestler is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Score +3 for passing guard: Chriss (15) vs (10) McWrestler McWrestler is trying desperately to improve position. Chriss wants to control the pace but McWrestler is squirming around nicely. McWrestler sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

McWrestler keeping full guard, as Chriss tries to pass. Chriss trying to control but McWrestler is working from the bottom. Chriss content to stall in guard here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Chriss seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down McWrestler for as long as he can get away with.
