PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Yawa Kiang (ranked 23769 p4p, 23706 weight class) and Way Nada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Way Nada acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 31 - 51 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yawa Kiang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 39 - 43 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Way Nada!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Frank Dennis and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Nada looking to score a takedown here. Kiang is defending well but Nada drives through and ends up in Kiang's guard.
Kiang has control of Nada's left arm, preventing Nada from doing any damage.
Nada in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Kiang pulls Nada in close to prevent any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nada slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Kiang has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kiang throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Kiang tries to clinch but Nada is having none of it.

Kiang darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Nada pushes Kiang off and gets back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kiang shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Nada pinned against the cage. Nada gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Nada flicks out a counter leg kick but Kiang steps away.

Nada closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Kiang's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Kiang holds on and takes a little breather.
Nada in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Nada tries to free his leg and advance position but Kiang is retaining full guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kiang working a defensive guard here.
Nada not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Kiang looking for a sweep. Not yet Kiang, not yet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Way Nada dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Nada shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kiang as he avoids it easily.
And Kiang counters with a quick kick to the body but Nada blocks it.
Nada shoots in and drives through. Kiang sprawls well.
Nada has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Nada throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Kiang tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Nada is in Kiang's guard.

Kiang has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Nada off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kiang shoots in looking for a takedown. Nada tries to sprawl out of it but Kiang keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Nada manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Nada throws a big counter head kick but Kiang avoids it with no problem.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kiang defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Nada.
Kiang throws a quick counter head kick but Nada was just out of range.
Yawa Kiang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Way Nada.

Nada closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Nada lands in his opponent's guard.
Nada slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nada is fighting to break Kiang's control of his arms but Kiang is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Nada is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kiang working a defensive guard but Nada manages to pass into side control anyway.
Kiang can't do much from the bottom here.
Nada working the strikes but Kiang uses the opportunity to regain half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Kiang is concentrating on defense, preventing Nada from advancing position.
Nada with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Nada is trying hard to land a takedown here. Kiang sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Kiang scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kiang working away.
Nada tries to bench press Kiang off him but Kiang keeps the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Yawa Kiang dominated that second round.
That's time! Back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Nada shoots in and bounces Kiang off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Nada controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Kiang controls Nada momentarily but Nada frees himself.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nada working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Nada is stalling in the full guard.

Nada slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Kiang is pulling down on Nada's head. It's preventing any offense from Nada, at least for the moment.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Kiang shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Nada napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kiang wants to control but Nada is keeping him busy.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nada takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Nada wants to control but Kiang postures up.
Kiang trying to control the action but Nada is working from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Kiang is working Nada over with some ground and pound from side control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Nada is trying to control Kiang's posture but Kiang avoids it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Kiang tries for a takedown but Nada circles away easily
and Nada counters with a big head kick but Kiang shrugs it off.

And that's the end of the fight!
Way Nada comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Nada has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
