This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 49 wins and 66 losses; Billy Turturro! The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, William Gold and James Glass.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Ramirez darts in looking for a takedown but Turturro gets double underhooks and turns Ramirez into the cage. Ramirez is trying to trip Turturro. He has hold of a leg but Turturro is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Ramirez persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Ramirez (2) vs (0) Turturro Turturro is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Turturro looking for a sweep. Not yet Turturro, not yet. Turturro is trying to control the position but Ramirez postures up. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Turturro is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Ramirez postures up.
We've been hearing good reports from Ramirez's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Ramirez is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Turturro. Ramirez's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Ramirez seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Turturro for as long as he can get away with.

Ramirez tries to get the hooks in deep but Turturro pushed the leg off. Turturro tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell! Turturro tries to reverse the position but Ramirez maintains control. Turturro gets back to half guard. Ramirez seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
