Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Leonardo Santos (ranked 2509 p4p, 4483 weight class) and Afonso Padilha (ranked 265 p4p, 0 weight class). Afonso Padilha has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 6 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Leonardo Santos! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Afonso Padilha! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Paulo Santos and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Padilha looks to score with a jab to the body but Santos is just out of range. Santos tries to counter with a takedown but Padilha is quick to defend against it. Padilha misses with a wild body shot. Santos goes for a double leg but Padilha avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Padilha continues to drive forward. Padilha tries a body shot but Santos blocks it.

Santos is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Padilha to keep the fight standing. Santos is trying to trip Padilha. He has hold of a leg but Padilha is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Santos persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Santos stops Padilha from standing up. Santos forces his way into half guard. Santos frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Santos is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Padilha is surviving well by controlling Santos's body position as best he can. Padilha is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Santos looking to secure an arm triangle but Padilha defends it well. Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Santos wants to take Padilha's back but he can't do it this time.
That's one minute gone in the round. Padilha is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position. Santos has control of Padilha's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Padilha regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Santos wants to take Padilha's back but he can't do it this time. Santos definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Santos is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Padilha is forced to tap! Great finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Leonardo Santos! After the fight, Leonardo Santos was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
