The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maynard misses with a takedown attempt - Hughes sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Hughes feinted with a counter takedown.
Maynard throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Hughes connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Maynard scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Hughes doesn't seem bothered though.

Hughes has managed to clinch.

Maynard tries to land knees in the clinch but Hughes avoids the damage to the body.
Maynard fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Maynard drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Hughes gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Hughes is pressed up against the cage. Maynard has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Hughes down to the mat. Hughes avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Hughes is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Maynard pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Maynard tries to stall but Hughes uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Hughes wants to get back to striking at distance but Maynard won't allow it.

Maynard swings wildly with an uppercut but Hughes uses good head movement to avoid it.

I would just about give that final round to Simon Maynard.
