Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between BJ Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brown Guy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, BJ Penn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brown Guy!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Thiago Cunha and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Guy scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Guy misses with a head shot. Penn uses the momentum to regain guard.
Penn looking for a sweep. Not yet Penn, not yet.
Guy tries to free his leg and advance position but Penn is retaining full guard.
Penn is trying to control the position but Guy postures up.
Guy wants to control from the top but Penn keeps moving.
Penn looking to hit a scissor sweep but Guy is one step ahead there.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Guy looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Guy trying to control but Penn is working from the bottom.
Guy stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Penn swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Guy trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Guy wants to control from the top but Penn keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Horrible takedown by Guy or perhaps it was just good defense by Penn which made him look bad.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Guy fails in his attempt to clinch.

Guy scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Penn tries to improve position but can't.
Guy working away.

Penn is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Penn is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Guy lands some shots froms side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Penn tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Guy tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Guy doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Penn counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Penn.
Penn trying to control but Guy is working from the bottom.

Guy looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brown Guy dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Guy tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Penn decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Guy's guard.
Penn won't allow Guy to sweep him here.
Guy manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Guy wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.

Guy goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Penn is on top in guard.
Penn trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Penn postures up.
Penn trying to control but Guy is working from the bottom.

Guy throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Penn trying to control the position from guard on top but Guy is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Guy shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Penn pinned against the cage. Penn gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Penn closes the distance and clinches up with Guy, looking for a takedown. Penn pushes Guy against the cage but Guy circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Guy closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Guy lands in his opponent's guard.
Guy is breathing heavily.
Guy tries to free his leg and advance position but Penn is retaining full guard.
Penn is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Penn looking to hit a scissor sweep but Guy is one step ahead there.
Penn is trying to control the position but Guy postures up.

Guy trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Penn manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Guy looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Guy looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Penn passes into half guard.
Guy is not content to let Penn control the position.
Guy flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Guy is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Penn wants to take a breather but Guy is having none of it.
Guy works his way to full guard. Good work.
Penn wants to control from the top but Guy keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Guy keeping busy on the bottom but Penn has passed one foot through into half guard.
Guy is trying to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Guy has his takedown stuffed

and Penn counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Guy's guard now.

Guy wants to hit a switch here but Penn passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Guy there!
Penn prevents Guy from getting the reversal.
Penn wants to take Guy's back but he can't do it this time.
Guy takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Guy is trying desperately to improve position.

Penn wants to control the pace but Guy is squirming around nicely.
Penn manages to capitalize on a mistake by Guy to take his back!
Guy is keeping busy.
Guy rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Guy counters with a nice double leg into side control. Penn won't be happy with that.

Guy tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Guy trying to control the action but Penn is working from the bottom.

Guy is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Penn has escaped the position, nice work there.

Guy is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Penn is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Penn has escaped and now he's on top!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to BJ Penn.
I think Penn has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
