PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jimar Kinkead (ranked 4081 p4p, 4143 weight class) and Scott Potter (ranked 389 p4p, 392 weight class). Kinkead kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is No Sunshine. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jimar Kinkead! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Scott Potter! The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Santiago Holmes and Sandra Marshall.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kinkead changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Potter tries to avoid it but Kinkead manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Potter to the ground. Potter escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. A little jabbing left from Potter on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. Kinkead takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Kinkead gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Potter connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Kinkead misses with an uppercut. Potter saw that one coming. Kinkead darts in looking for a takedown but Potter gets double underhooks and turns Kinkead into the cage. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jimar Kinkead. That's going to take a lot out of him. Potter wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Potter breaks the clinch.
Potter connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Kinkead momentarily.
Kinkead misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kinkead tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Potter swivels and escapes. A cross from Potter lands. Potter connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. Kinkead walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kinkead shoots in but Potter avoids the takedown attempt easily. Kinkead fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Potter looks like he wants to counter punch here. No luck with that takedown attempt from Kinkead. Potter scores with a nice strike. Kinkead fails with the takedown. Kinkead takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Kinkead looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Potter dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Potter bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Potter stuns Kinkead with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Potter slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Potter lands a body shot.
Kinkead takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Kinkead takes a shot right to the bread basket. Potter's corner calls for a 1-2. Potter obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Potter connects with a single shot there. Potter connects with a body shot. Kinkead shoots for a takedown but Potter saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Scott Potter is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Kinkead fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Kinkead is breathing heavily. Potter bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Kinkead's head backwards. Potter scores with a sloppy right hand. Kinkead should have avoided that one.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kinkead shoots for a double leg takedown but Potter sprawls well. He's pushed Kinkead's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Potter lands a big uppercut and Kinkead crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Kinkead looks OK. Potter waves Kinkead back to his feet!
Kinkead is rocked! Potter throws a shot to the body.
Oh Kinkead is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! BAM! Potter delivers a spinning backfist that drops Kinkead like a ragdoll! This is all oooooveeeer! He was out before he hit the ground!
