PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gakus Amiga (ranked 23925 p4p, 23911 weight class) and Helen Salvacion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 32 - 48 - 3, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gakus Amiga!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 35 - 46 - 5, fighting out of Las Vegas, Helen Salvacion!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Frank Dennis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Amiga throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Salvacion's waist but Salvacion gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Amiga off to one side.
And Salvacion responds with a good body kick, but Amiga manages to step out the way in time.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Salvacion closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Amiga did well to prevent Salvacion getting side control.

Amiga has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Salvacion not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Amiga wants to stand but Salvacion is controlling the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Salvacion displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Amiga.
Salvacion let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gakus Amiga. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Salvacion changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Amiga looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Salvacion controls the position.
Amiga wants to control but Salvacion postures up.

A lull in the action here.
It looks like Salvacion might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Salvacion postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Helen Salvacion dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Amiga slaps away a takedown attempt from Salvacion, before circling back to the center of the mat.
It appears Amiga was looking to counter with a kick there.
Salvacion fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Amiga avoids it really well and circles away.
Amiga thinks about countering with a head kick.

Salvacion shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Amiga napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Amiga is looking for a sweep.
Salvacion controlling the position.
Amiga is looking to regain half guard here but Salvacion keeps moving and retains side control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Amiga is trying to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Amiga struggling a bit here.
Amiga tries to buck Salvacion off but Salvacion is having none of it.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Salvacion shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Amiga defends it nicely.
Gakus Amiga has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Helen Salvacion.
Salvacion fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Salvacion has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Amiga closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Salvacion's guard.
Amiga's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Salvacion seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Gakus Amiga will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Amiga darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Salvacion wants to control but Amiga is keeping busy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Salvacion controlling the position well.

Well, if Amiga is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Helen Salvacion has got the better of the ground game so far.
Salvacion is positioning himself well to prevent Amiga advancing to mount.
Amiga with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Salvacion is controlling Amiga's position as best he can from this difficult position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Amiga tries for a takedown but Salvacion sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Amiga leaves Salvacion with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Amiga changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Salvacion crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Amiga - the referee stops the clock and Salvacion gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Amiga. Salvacion manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Amiga holds on and takes a little breather.
Amiga throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Salvacion is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Helen Salvacion.
I think Salvacion has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
