PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tapad Amiga (ranked 23935 p4p, 23659 weight class) and Clifford Val Salvacion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 55 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tapad Amiga!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 62 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Clifford Val Salvacion!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Robert Twigg and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Salvacion is defended easily by Amiga.
Salvacion tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Amiga defends well and Salvacion ends up having to push Amiga into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Amiga changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Salvacion tries to avoid it but Amiga manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Salvacion to the ground. Salvacion escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Salvacion counters with a body kick.

Amiga shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Salvacion napping and manages to drive through into side control!

That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee asks Amiga politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Amiga prefers to stall for the moment though.
The ground and pound from Amiga seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Amiga slows the pace down.
Salvacion is trying to control Amiga's posture but Amiga avoids it.
Amiga tries to score with some ground and pound. Salvacion controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
You can see the frustration on Salvacion's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Salvacion closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Salvacion lands in his opponent's guard.
Amiga wants to stand up but Salvacion is controlling him.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Amiga is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Salvacion engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Amiga looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Salvacion trying to control but Amiga is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Salvacion is stalling in the full guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Tapad Amiga dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

A kick lands to the mid section there for Amiga.
Salvacion dives in and grabs Amiga's left leg, looking for a takedown. Amiga pushes down on Salvacion's head and hops out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Salvacion shoots for a takedown but Amiga saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Amiga closes the distance and clinches up with Salvacion, looking for a takedown. Amiga pushes Salvacion against the cage but Salvacion circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Salvacion is trying to counter with his kicks.
Amiga shoots in but no luck this time.
Amiga dives in for a single leg takedown but Salvacion sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Salvacion throws a big counter head kick but Amiga avoids it with no problem.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tapad Amiga. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Salvacion gets control of Amiga's arms and successfully pulls guard. Salvacion will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Amiga controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Salvacion wants to stand up but Amiga is controlling him.

Salvacion has his hands on Amiga's head, controlling the position.
Amiga controls from within his opponent's guard.

Amiga trying to control the position from guard on top but Salvacion is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
No luck for Amiga with that takedown attempt.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Amiga shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

Amiga shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Salvacion counters with a nice kick to the body.
Amiga fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Salvacion avoids it really well and circles away.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Amiga shoots in for a takedown but Salvacion shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Salvacion steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.

Amiga content to control rather than advance.
Salvacion wants to control but Amiga is keeping busy.

Amiga looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Tapad Amiga overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Salvacion is not content to let Amiga control the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Amiga keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Salvacion desperately trying to maintain half guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Amiga.
Salvacion closes this distance looking for a takedown but Amiga circles away.

Amiga closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Amiga is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Salvacion is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Amiga's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Amiga's back!
Clifford Val Salvacion has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Tapad Amiga is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Let's hope that Salvacion has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Tapad Amiga showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Amiga, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
