PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Attilla Jeffery (ranked 4195 p4p, 4194 weight class) and Said Abdulayev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Abdulayev has chosen Thé à la Menthe Instrumental as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Attilla Jeffery!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Said Abdulayev!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Gregory Folan and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Abdulayev shoots in and bounces Jeffery off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Abdulayev is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Let's hope that Abdulayev has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Abdulayev stands up over Jeffery, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Jeffery trying to keep a closed guard but Abdulayev is proving a slippery customer.
Jeffery really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Abdulayev is pushing down on Jeffery's leg trying to pass to half guard. Jeffery is fighting to maintain full guard but Abdulayev has managed to sneak the leg through.
Still in half guard, Abdulayev seems content to control.
Jeffery wants to get back to his feet.
Jeffery on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Jeffery tries to get out of the position.
Abdulayev slows the pace down in half guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Abdulayev clinches up against the cage.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Abdulayev's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Jeffery tries to work over Abdulayev's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Jeffery breaks the clinch.
Jeffery fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Abdulayev manages to avoid it.
Attilla Jeffery seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Jeffery closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Abdulayev quickly recovers to half guard.
Abdulayev is trying to stand up here but Jeffery is controlling him well.
Abdulayev tries to kick Jeffery off in order to stand up. Jeffery Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Jeffery trying to control the action but Abdulayev is working from the bottom.

Abdulayev manages to work his way to half guard, despite Jeffery's best efforts.
Jeffery throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Abdulayev is controlling Jeffery's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Abdulayev is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Jeffery's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Jeffery's back!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Abdulayev not allowing Jeffery to control his hands.
Jeffery is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Abdulayev connects with a big shot to the side of Jeffery's head.
Abdulayev has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Jeffery's body.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Said Abdulayev dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Abdulayev blocks a head kick by Jeffery.
Abdulayev with the counter takedown but Jeffery avoids it easily.

Jeffery closes the distance and clinches.

Abdulayev breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Jeffery fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Abdulayev to the ground. Jeffery is now in Abdulayev's guard.
Abdulayev manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jeffery manages to get himself to full guard.

Abdulayev is stalling in the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jeffery wants to get back to his feet but Abdulayev is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Abdulayev has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Abdulayev controlling from the top position.
Jeffery wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Abdulayev is now in half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Abdulayev's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Jeffery fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Abdulayev to the ground. Jeffery is now in Abdulayev's guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Abdulayev looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Jeffery!
Jeffery tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Said Abdulayev will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Attilla Jeffery is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Jeffery manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Abdulayev on his heels. He'll look to pass Abdulayev's guard now, I'm sure.
Jeffery wants to control from the top but Abdulayev keeps moving.
Jeffery wants to stand but Abdulayev is controlling his posture from full guard.

Abdulayev is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Jeffery frees his head nicely. Oh but Abdulayev has switched to an armbar! Jeffery is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Armbar). Said Abdulayev!
Said Abdulayev decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
