PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sam Rothstein (ranked 2586 p4p, 5066 weight class) and Grga Chvarak (ranked 339 p4p, 546 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Sam Rothstein!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Grga Chvarak!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Santiago Holmes and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rothstein shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Chvarak counters with a nice uppercut.
Rothstein tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Chvarak manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Rothstein tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Rothstein has Chvarak pressed against the cage, preventing Chvarak from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Rothstein tries to pull guard but Chvarak holds him up against the cage and eventually Rothstein drops back down to his feet.

Rothstein closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Chvarak did well to prevent Rothstein getting side control.

We've been informed that Chvarak has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Rothstein goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Chvarak has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Rothstein but great work by Chvarak.

Chvarak thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Rothstein's head.
Rothstein is trying to control but can't.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Chvarak stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

That was a close round but I would say that Sam Rothstein will probably get the nod.

Rothstein misses with a takedown attempt - Chvarak sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
It seemed like Chvarak was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Chvarak makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

enabling Chvarak to counter with a crisp jab.

Chvarak must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Let's hope that Chvarak has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Chvarak is posturing up here but Rothstein has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Chvarak tries to roll out but it's too tight and Chvarak has to tap! Slick submission there by Rothstein!
