PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Marvellous Dan (ranked 4342 p4p, 4556 weight class) and Jakobe Rojas (ranked 274 p4p, 260 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Marvellous Dan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jakobe Rojas!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Aleksandr Martynov and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dan darts in looking for a takedown but Rojas gets double underhooks and turns Dan into the cage.

Dan pulls guard.
Rojas passes into half guard.
Dan is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Dan has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Rojas is on him like a limpet, forcing Dan back against the cage.
Rojas is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Dan to keep the fight standing.
Dan looking to slow down the pace here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rojas tries to pull guard but Dan forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Dan prevents a takedown attempt there.
Marvellous Dan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jakobe Rojas.

Rojas tries to work over Dan's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Dan tries to score a body lock takedown but Rojas shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Dan ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Dan no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Dan not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Dan prevents Rojas from improving position.
Rojas throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Dan works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Rojas content to control rather than advance.

Rojas thows a huge punch but Dan dodges it nicely.
Dan looks like he's trying to stand up.
Dan is looking to control Rojas's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Dan avoid being mounted?
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rojas is looking to pass Dan's guard but actually Dan recovers to full guard.
Dan throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Rojas trying to control the position from guard on top but Dan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Dan can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Rojas controls the pace.
Dan has a closed guard, preventing Rojas from standing up.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Rojas controls from within his opponent's guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Rojas leaves Dan with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
A telegraphed right hand from Rojas misses the target.
Dan swats away the attempt to clinch by Rojas.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Dan lands with a shot to the body.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Rojas has eaten all the pies!
Rojas is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Dan shoots for a takedown but Rojas saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Rojas drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Rojas controlling the position from side mount.
Dan is looking for a sweep.
Dan is breathing heavily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rojas working the ground and pound but Dan is defending the strikes.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Marvellous Dan will probably get the nod.
That's time! Dan's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Dan throws a sloppy head kick and Rojas moves out of range easily.
Dan circles away from the clinch attempt
and Dan counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Dan tries to close the distance and clinch but Rojas swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Dan moves into range and clinches up with Rojas.

Rojas has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Dan clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Dan rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Dan has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rojas is working away from the top position though.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Rojas with the ground and pound but Dan uses the opportunity to regain guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Rojas is looking to advance position but Dan has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Rojas tries to reverse the position but Dan maintains control.
Rojas tries to improve his position but instead Dan has taken his back!
Dan has the hooks in. Rojas is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Dan working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
You can see the frustration on Rojas's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Dan has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Rojas has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Rojas really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dan. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Dan keeps control of the position as Rojas tries to break free.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Rojas wants to control his opponent's hands but Dan gets his hands free.

Dan is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Rojas defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Rojas tries to roll but Dan sticks to his back.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rojas keeps trying to improve his position.
Rojas trying to control the hands but Dan breaks the grip.
Dan is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Rojas can do to turn this around?
Rojas trying to survive by controlling the hands.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Marvellous Dan dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Dan moves out of range as Rojas strikes.
Dan fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Rojas wants to clinch.

Rojas shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Rojas showed some decent athleticism there.

and Rojas counters with a single leg into guard. Dan didn't expect that.

Rojas is looking to work some ground and pound but Dan has wrist control.
Rojas trying to control but Dan is working from the bottom.
Rojas is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Dan has a closed guard, preventing Rojas from standing up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Dan looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Rojas distracts Dan with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Rojas throws a strike but Dan rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Rojas managing to control the position.
Rojas controls Dan momentarily but Dan frees himself.
Dan tries to free his leg and advance position but Rojas is retaining full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Dan preventing the sweep.
Dan looking to sit in guard and control but Rojas gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Rojas is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Rojas wanted to stand there but Dan had control of the position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Rojas loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Rojas is stalling in the full guard.

Dan is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Rojas is aware though and is defending well.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Rojas fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Dan avoids it really well and circles away.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Rojas shoots in for a takedown but Dan shows good takedown defense.
Marvellous Dan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jakobe Rojas.
Rojas tries to clinch up but Dan circles away and keeps his distance.
Jakobe Rojas has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Marvellous Dan is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Marvellous Dan.
Well Dan has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
