PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jakobe Barker (ranked 4130 p4p, 5192 weight class) and Radd Zayan (ranked 445 p4p, 535 weight class). Zayan has chosen We Drink Ritalin as his entrance music. Radd Zayan will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jakobe Barker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Radd Zayan!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Percy O'Donnell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Barker fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Zayan sprawls well initially but Barker persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Zayan taking some punishment here, with Barker in his half guard.
Barker looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Zayan is trying to stand.
Well, if Barker is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Barker working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Barker prevents Zayan from standing back up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Zayan gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Barker to score an easy takedown into full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Barker accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Barker has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Zayan utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Zayan wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Barker manages to pass to side control.

Barker stands up and beckons Zayan to join him on the feet.

Barker is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Zayan's half guard.
Barker is controlling the pace.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Barker has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Barker looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Barker seems to be working for a kimura but Zayan defends the submission attempt.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Zayan has hold of Barker's hands but Barker slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Barker seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Barker not doing much here.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Barker closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Zayan to the mat! Zayan manages to get full guard.
Barker slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Barker slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Barker prevents Zayan from escaping the position.

Barker stands up and beckons Zayan to his feet.

Barker drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Zayan is looking to stand back up but Barker counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Zayan.

We've been informed that Zayan has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Barker tries to pass the half guard into mount. Zayan knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Zayan is breathing heavily.

Barker decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Barker shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Zayan's guard.
Barker seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Jakobe Barker overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Zayan wants to get back to his feet but Barker is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Barker is stalling in the full guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Barker is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


A momentary lapse in concentration from Zayan enables Barker to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Zayan manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Zayan wants to get back to his feet but Barker passes into half guard.

Barker has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Barker takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Zayan takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Barker controlling the position easily from mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Zayan takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Zayan in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Barker landing strikes from the mount and Zayan is in trouble!

Barker get's back to his feet.
Jakobe Barker is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Barker manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Zayan on his heels. He'll look to pass Zayan's guard now, I'm sure.
Barker is stalling in the full guard.
Barker landing some decent shots from guard.
Barker not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Radd Zayan has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Barker decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Zayan, up you get!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
